Moving firefox/sage RSS feeds to Google Reader and the iPhone

RSS

I’m a long-time and happy Sage user, but since I’m more and more starting to use Chrome and Safari, not to mention my iPhone, the lock-in on Firefox is becoming a problem. I’d like to read my feeds in the bus on the way to work or while drinking my morning-cafe-latte.

Until recently I couldn’t find anyone who had solved the problem that Sage exports not only the top-level feed URLs but the URLs of all posts. – And I was too lazy to write a script myself.

Well, today I came across this: lookherefirst.wordpress.com/2008/09/24/sage-to-google-reader-opml-converter/, which I extended into a little script that reads a Firefox HTML bookmarks file and writes and OPML file on stdout. This OPML file can then easily be imported from Google Reader.

On the iPhone I then use Feeds to read the RSS feeds.
